Azerbaijani Carpet Art Exhibition Celebrates 120th Anniversary of Latif Karimov in Vienna

Vienna:An exhibition dedicated to Azerbaijani carpet art and the 120th anniversary of Latif Karimov, a prominent carpet artist and scholar, opened in Vienna, showcasing the rich heritage of Azerbaijani carpet art.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the exhibition was organized by the Cultural Center of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Austria and 'Azerkhalcha' OJSC in line with a presidential decree from Azerbaijan. The decree marks November 2026 as the 120th anniversary of Karimov, who is celebrated for his contributions to Azerbaijani fine arts and carpet art.

The exhibition, held at the Azerbaijan Cultural Center, features a variety of carpets reflecting the artistic and compositional characteristics of Azerbaijani carpet weaving. Both classical and contemporary designs are on display, including works such as 'Nakhchivan,' 'Garabagh,' and 'Paradise Pomegranate.'

The opening event on October 1st was attended by representatives from the Azerbaijani diplomatic mission, local cultural figures, and art enthusiasts. Leyla Gasimova, Director of the Cultural Center, highlighted the exhibition's role in promoting Azerbaijani carpet art internationally, emphasizing its cultural significance and aesthetic value.

Emin Mammadov, Chairman of 'Azerkhalcha' OJSC, underscored the importance of fostering cultural ties and increasing international interest in Azerbaijani carpets.

The exhibition also participated in the 'Long Night of Museums' on October 3, showcasing the carpet-making process and offering interactive experiences for visitors. Participants were recognized with certificates for their involvement in the weaving activities.

The event commemorates Karimov legacy and continues to bring Azerbaijani carpet traditions to a broader audience, highlighting their enduring cultural and artistic significance.
