Bonn: A delegation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan is actively participating in the 64th session of the Subsidiary Bodies (SB64) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), as reported by APA.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, during the first week of the session, a series of events and meetings were held, focusing on the implementation of initiatives from the COP29 Presidency and mandates assigned to Azerbaijan within the frameworks of COP29 and COP30. A notable joint session on the COP29 Baku Transparency Platform (BTP) initiative was conducted with the UNFCCC Secretariat and the COP30 and COP31 Presidencies. This event addressed experiences from the initial cycle of biennial transparency reports, examined current challenges, and discussed potential support for developing countries in preparing their second cycle reports. It was resolved that the next session under the BTP framework will be organized during the UNFCCC Climate Week in Baku this September.
The Baku Climate and Peace Action Hub supported an event titled 'From Commitments to Action: Innovative Partnerships Supporting Adaptation and Peace in Contexts of Crisis and Vulnerability.' The event focused on innovative strategies to bolster resilience in regions affected by conflict and climate risks. Additionally, a dialogue with state and non-state actors centered on the Baku-to-Bel©m Roadmap, a strategy aimed at increasing climate finance to $1.3 trillion, which was developed under a mandate given to Azerbaijan and Brazil and presented ahead of COP30.
The 'Bel©m 1.5 Mission,' implemented under the Troika mandate of the COP29, COP30, and COP31 Presidencies, also held its first session. During this session, both Party and non-Party participants shared their positions, contributing to the formulation of future steps. The Azerbaijani delegation further participated in the high-level segment of the Multilateral and Facilitative Consideration of Progress process, part of the Enhanced Transparency Framework of the Paris Agreement, and took part in the technical dialogue on Azerbaijan's biennial transparency report. This led to the successful completion of the assessment process of Azerbaijan's first-cycle biennial transparency report.
Simultaneously, the delegation was involved in discussions on the global climate agenda, engaging in thematic negotiations, mandated events, and bilateral meetings within the UNFCCC framework.
