Dubai: The Azerbaijani delegation is actively participating in the 28th Congress of the Universal Postal Union (UPU), which is taking place in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, from September 8 to 19. The Ministry of Digital Development and Transport (MIND) informed APA-Economics that this Congress serves as the supreme decision-making body of the UPU.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the Congress, which convenes every four years, is responsible for electing the Director General and Deputy Director General of the UPU International Bureau. It also elects the Chairman and members of both the Postal Operations Council and the Administrative Council. This year, Azerbaijan has put forward its candidacy for positions on both councils and is taking part in the elections.
The Congress is a significant event in the postal world, forming policies and regulations that shape international postal services. It is attended by representatives from all 192 UPU member countries, who participate in crucial decision-making for the global postal system. During the elections, 41 members are selected from five regions to serve on the relevant Councils.
Prior to the Congress, the ‘EMS AWARDS’ ceremony took place. ‘Azerpocht’ LLC, a company under AZCON Holding, received a silver award for its efficiency and was also recognized for excellence in customer service.
