BAKU: The Chairman of Azerbaijan's Central Election Commission (CEC), Mazahir Panahov, has lauded the seamless organization of Uzbekistan's parliamentary election, highlighting the strong participation of an Azerbaijani delegation as a reflection of the close bilateral relations between the two countries. Panahov's remarks came after his meeting with Uzbekistan's CEC Chairman, Zayniddin Nizamkhodjaev, who underscored the fraternal ties between the nations. According to Trend News Agency, Panahov expressed satisfaction with the election proceedings, noting that conversations with observers indicated a peaceful electoral atmosphere. Polling stations in Uzbekistan opened for the election to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis and local councils on October 27, with voting hours set from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM (GMT+5), and preliminary results expected on October 28. Five political parties are contesting in the elections: the Movement of Entrepreneurs and Businessmen - Uzbekistan Liberal Democratic Party, Demo cratic Party "Milliy Tiklanish," Ecological Party, People's Democratic Party, and Social Democratic Party "Adolat." The elections are being conducted under a mixed electoral system, as per the updated Constitution and national electoral legislation. This system allows for 75 members of the Legislative Chamber to be elected in single-mandate constituencies using a majoritarian system, while the remaining 75 members are chosen through proportional representation with party lists. A significant feature of this year's election is the complete digitalization of the process via the "E-Saylov" information system. The election is being monitored by over 850 foreign and international observers, including missions from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), and the Organization of Turkic States (OTS).
