Baku: Parviz Shahbazov, Minister of Energy, met with Vladanka Andreeva, the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan, to mark the conclusion of her mission in the country. Their discussions centered on the collaboration between Azerbaijan and the UN concerning energy and sustainable development.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Minister Shahbazov highlighted that energy efficiency and renewable energy are key priorities in the cooperation on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Ministry's operations. Azerbaijan has bolstered its leadership in the global climate agenda by hosting COP29 and implementing consistent policies and initiatives in green energy and energy transition. The meeting acknowledged Azerbaijan's new Nationally Defined Contribution (NDC) announced at COP30, which commits to a 40% emissions reduction by 2035.

The dialogue also covered the development of the SDG7 Roadmap for Azerbaijan and preparations for a side event on energy during the 82nd session of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) set to occur in Baku next April.

Additionally, the parties exchanged views on the UNIDO-ECO Clean Energy Center's activities, the advancement of renewable energy sources in Azerbaijan, the hydrogen concept, interconnector projects for interregional electricity, the decarbonization of the oil and gas sector, and future events under the UN partnership.
