BAKU: An event titled “Parliaments and global sanction trends: lobbying political sanctions in legislative bodies as an obstacle to international law” was organized by the Azerbaijani Social Research Center (SCR). The event showcased a book titled “Armenian lobbying and political corruption in sanctions against Azerbaijan: networks, facts, and exposures.”

According to Trend News Agency, the event featured several key speakers including Zahid Oruj, Chairman of the SCR Board and Head of the Azerbaijani Parliament Human Rights Committee, who discussed the implications of political lobbying on legislative processes. Ramid Namazov, Head of the Parliament’s Temporary Commission on Foreign Interference and Hybrid Threats, emphasized Azerbaijan’s international influence and the perceived challenges posed by the Armenian lobby. Additional speeches were delivered by MPs Fariz Ismayilzade, Mubariz Gurbanli, and Rizvan Nabiyev, who shared insights on topics ranging from hybrid warfare to Azerbaijan’s global environmenta
l initiatives.

The study’s author, Deputy Chairman of SCR Tahira Allahyarova, elaborated on the findings concerning Armenian lobbying efforts and their impact on international legal frameworks. The research reveals how the Armenian diaspora has strategically infiltrated human rights organizations to influence international perceptions and legislative actions against Azerbaijan.

The event also highlighted increased activities of the Armenian diaspora following Azerbaijan’s territorial victories. These activities are seen as attempts to sway international opinion and legislative bodies against Azerbaijan, as exemplified by a sanctions project proposed by members of the US Congress in April 2023.

SCR’s research points to a growing global influence of the Armenian diaspora in various international entities. The study exposes how financial magnate Eduardo Erenkian supports these lobbying efforts, particularly through organizations like the International Raoul Wallenberg Foundation.

The event concluded with dis
cussions on the broader implications of these lobbying activities and their impact on international law and relations, with a particular focus on the activities within Argentina and other countries.
