Baku:Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov met with Aryeh Lightstone, Senior Advisor to the U.S. Special Envoy for Peace Missions, to discuss the current state and prospects of Azerbaijan-US bilateral relations and regional developments.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the meeting highlighted the significance of the historic summit held in Washington on August 8, 2025, which elevated Azerbaijan-US relations to a strategic partnership. The discussions emphasized the rapid development of bilateral ties across various areas following the agreements reached during the summit.
The Strategic Partnership Charter signed on February 10, 2026, between Azerbaijan and the United States was noted for its role in strengthening the institutional framework of bilateral ties and opening new areas of cooperation. The working groups under the Charter and their efforts to develop specific projects and roadmaps for future collaboration were reviewed.
Opportunities for expanding Azerbaijan-US economic and energy cooperation were discussed, with particular emphasis on agreements in energy, investment, high technologies, and other areas reached during Baku Energy Week and the 2nd Azerbaijan International Investment Forum. These agreements were highlighted as crucial for further strengthening the economic foundations of the strategic partnership.
Bayramov briefed the US official on ongoing infrastructure projects aimed at developing the region's energy, transport, and logistics potential, expanding the Middle Corridor, promoting investment, and enhancing regional connectivity. The TRIPP project was underscored as vital for enhancing regional transport and economic connectivity, ensuring an uninterrupted connection between Azerbaijan and Nakhchivan, and expanding transit opportunities.
The normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia was also discussed. Bayramov provided an overview of Azerbaijan's efforts to advance its peace agenda, implement agreements, open regional communications, and promote lasting peace and stability, while conveying Azerbaijan's position on these issues.
Both sides emphasized the importance of continuing efforts to further develop the Azerbaijan-US strategic partnership across all areas of mutual interest and to translate the agreements reached into practical outcomes.
