Baku: The Azerbaijani group of the 'Peace Bridge' Initiative has voiced its deep disappointment over the hostile media reaction and the unacceptable tone of public discourse in Armenia concerning the visit of the diplomatic corps to the Garabagh and East Zangezur regions of Azerbaijan on September 11-12, 2026.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the group released a statement emphasizing that a visit by the diplomatic corps to the sovereign territory of Azerbaijan should not be controversial. They expressed disturbance over the verbal attacks directed at ambassadors and countries for participating in the visit, noting that such actions contradict Armenia's recognition of Azerbaijan's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The statement further highlighted that Azerbaijan and Armenia are currently in a post-conflict period, facing the challenge of overcoming decades of confrontation. The group, supported by the governments of both nations, is taking steps to support the peace process, encourage dialogue, and contribute to confidence-building measures.

The Azerbaijani group also addressed the issue of cultural heritage, stating that it belongs to the Azerbaijani people and is protected by the state. They called for discussions on cultural heritage to be based on reciprocity and open dialogue, and mentioned the initiation of a platform for professional discussion of peace-related issues between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

The statement concluded with a warning against allowing the peace process to come under pressure from revanchist forces, as this could jeopardize progress toward peace. They urged Armenian society to approach the matter prudently and avoid fueling malign agendas within and beyond Armenia.
