Baku: Azerbaijani MP Gudrat Hasanguliyev announced during a session of the Milli Majlis that a peace agreement with Armenia could be finalized by June, aligning with the upcoming elections in Armenia. The announcement was reported by APA.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Hasanguliyev highlighted the potential for a peace agreement if Armenia commits, in its new Constitution, to renouncing territorial claims against Azerbaijan. He explained that under Azerbaijani law, the conflict with Armenia is regarded as the Patriotic War, and thus, the Constitution necessitates the Milli Majlis's approval for any peace agreement. Although the agreement was initially approved last August, further discussions in parliament are required. Hasanguliyev suggested including this matter in the spring session's agenda.
Hasanguliyev also noted the ongoing cargo transportation from Azerbaijan to Armenia and suggested that reciprocal arrangements could be established to benefit both countries. He proposed restoring the railway connection from Sadarak to Yerevan and emphasized the importance of opening roads between Trkiye and Armenia by March. This, he argued, would facilitate rapid development in Nakhchivan by enabling rail cargo transport through Armenia. Hasanguliyev urged the government to take necessary steps to advance these initiatives.
