Tbilisi: Some details have become known regarding Mirza Aliyev, who was neutralized during a special operation conducted in connection with individuals related to the ‘criminal underworld’ in the Gabal village of the Lagodekhi district of Georgia.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Mirza Aliyev, who served as a member of the Lagodekhi City Council from 2010 to 2014, was targeted in a police operation aimed at dismantling a network associated with organized crime. The operation resulted in the detention of 34 individuals linked to the ‘criminal underworld,’ as reported by the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Relatives of Mirza Aliyev have denied his involvement with the ‘criminal underworld.’ They claimed that law enforcement officers used excessive force and entered the house without warning. According to family members, Aliyev mistakenly opened fire on the officers, believing the masked men were robbers, which led to a severe exchange of gunfire.

The Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs clarified that Mirza Aliyev, born in 1973 and residing in Gabal village, opened intensive fire on special unit officers during the operation, severely injuring one officer. Aliyev was neutralized on the spot by return fire, as per the ministry’s statement.

The investigation revealed that the suspects were involved in resolving disputes within the ‘criminal underworld,’ imposing fines on those who violated ‘rules,’ and threatening them with death. It was also discovered that a criminal authority named Elmuraz Mammadov played a significant role in the group’s illegal activities.

Searches conducted on the detainees and their residences led to the seizure of computer equipment, mobile phones used to communicate with ‘thieves-in-law’ abroad, narcotics, firearms, and significant sums of cash as material evidence. Crimes linked to the ‘criminal underworld’ in Georgia are punishable by up to 15 years of imprisonment.
