Baku: The Milli Majlis (Azerbaijani Parliament) has deliberated on the approval of Kamran Aliyev for the position of Prosecutor General of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, President Ilham Aliyev nominated Kamran Aliyev again for the role, and after thorough discussions, the parliament voted in favor of the reappointment.
The legislative framework for the appointment is outlined in Article 16 of the ‘Law on the Prosecutor’s Office,’ which stipulates that the term of office for the Prosecutor General and other key prosecutorial positions is five years. Kamran Aliyev initially assumed office on May 1, 2020. The constitution mandates that the Milli Majlis must consent to appointments and dismissals for the Prosecutor General position based on the President’s nominations.
During the meeting of the Committee for Law Policy and State-Building, the agenda item concerning the granting of consent for Kamran Aliyev’s appointment was discussed. Following these discussions, the committee recommended the issue for endorsement at the plenary session of the parliament.
