Baku: Azerbaijan's People's Artist and film actor Tofig Mirzayev passed away late last night at a hospital in Be'er Sheva, Israel, according to Yegana Salman, Director of the Azerbaijan Cultural Center in Israel. Mirzayev had been hospitalized for two months following a stroke.

According to Azeri-Press news agency, Mirzayev's health initially showed signs of improvement, but his condition worsened in recent days. Despite his wish to be buried in Baku, he is expected to be laid to rest today in a cemetery in Arad, Israel.

Born in 1932 in Azerbaijan's Gadabay district, Tofig Mirzayev was honored with the title of Honored Artist of the Azerbaijan SSR in 1976. He was also a recipient of a presidential scholarship from the President of Azerbaijan. On June 14, 2022, Mirzayev was awarded the title of People's Artist of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the "Shohrat" (Glory) Order.

Mirzayev's filmography includes appearances in several acclaimed films such as Nasimi, …€œzeyir ¶mr (Uzeyir's Life), O qizi tapin (Find That Girl), Onun b?lali sevgisi (His Troubled Love), Usaqligin son gec?si (The Last Night of Childhood), and Istintaq (The Investigation).
