Azerbaijani Poet Alisamid Kur Passes Away

Baku: Poet Alisamid Kur (Jafarli) has passed away, his family members told APA. According to the family, he died today at City Clinical Hospital No. 3 (Sabunchu Hospital). Alisamid Kur will be buried today in the Salyan district.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, due to health problems, Kur was admitted to the Republican Diagnostic Center on September 15 and later continued treatment at the Republican Clinical Hospital. Alisamid Kur was born on February 8, 1954, in the city of Salyan into a family of teachers. In 1981, he graduated with honors from the Theatre Studies Faculty of the Azerbaijan State Institute of Arts named after Mirzaaga Aliyev.

He worked as an editor at the Azerbaijan State Television and Radio Broadcasting Committee and held various positions at the “Azerbaijanfilm” film studio named after Jafar Jabbarly and the Azerbaijan Theatre Museum. He had been a member of the Azerbaijan Writers’ Union since 1988. In 1989, he worked as the head of a department at the Literature Promotion and Co
pyright Bureau of the Writers’ Union, as well as head of a department at the “Yol” literary newspaper under the Azerbaijan Center for Literary Translation and International Literary Relations.

From 1991 to 1994, he served as the editor-in-chief of the “Yol” literary newspaper. His poems were translated into various languages and published in poetry anthologies and literary journals. For 20 years, he represented Azerbaijan at poetry gatherings held in many cities around the world.
