Abu dhabi: Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev praised the efforts of US President Donald Trump in ending a conflict that spanned over three decades, as he spoke at the Zayed Award for Human Fraternity ceremony in Abu Dhabi, as reported by APA's correspondent present at the event.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, President Aliyev highlighted the significance of the peace achieved between Azerbaijan and Armenia, emphasizing its importance not only for the two nations but also for the broader region. He acknowledged that the two countries had been at war for over 30 years, and it has been six months since they started living in peace. Aliyev expressed that learning to live in peace is a unique experience for Azerbaijan, a country that has not known peace since gaining independence. He noted the rapid adaptation to this new reality, marking the last six months as a period of partnership and cooperation towards long-term peace.
President Aliyev also conveyed his gratitude to US President Donald Trump for his pivotal role in facilitating peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia. He recounted the historic trilateral summit hosted by President Trump in Washington on August 8, 2025, which culminated in the initial agreement between the two countries and a joint declaration. This summit, attended by both nations and witnessed by President Trump, effectively ended the long-standing conflict.
