Azerbaijani Taekwondo Athletes Secure 11 Medals at III CIS Games

Mingachevir: The first day of the taekwondo competition at the III CIS Games, held at the ‘Kur’ Olympic Training and Sports Center in Mingachevir, was marked by significant success for the Azerbaijani team. Azerbaijani taekwondo athletes achieved notable results across seven weight categories.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Ziya Hasanli (63 kg), Humay Dadashova (46 kg), and Maryam Mammadova (53 kg) emerged victorious in their final matches, securing Azerbaijan’s first three gold medals of the Games. Additionally, Eljan Aliyev (74 kg) and Umid Rahimzade (54 kg) advanced to the finals but were defeated, earning silver medals.

The Azerbaijani team also claimed six bronze medals. Among the men, Tamerlan Yagubov (54 kg), Allahverdi Mammadov (87 kg), and Zeynal Aliyev (87 kg) achieved bronze. Among the women, Salima Guliyeva (46 kg), Nilufar Borji (53 kg), and Nargiz Kazimova (62 kg) also secured bronze medals.

In total, on the first day of the competition, the Azerbaijani taekwondo team won 11 medals, including 3 gold, 2 silver, and 6 bronze, marking a strong start at the III CIS Games. Ziya Hasanli clinched the first gold medal for Azerbaijan by defeating Russian competitor Egor Lakin in the decisive match. Humay Dadashova added to the gold tally by claiming victory in the 46 kg weight category final.
