Azerbaijan’s Academy of Sciences to Expel Ramiz Mehdiyev from Membership

Baku: The leadership of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) has reiterated its firm stance on expelling Ramiz Mehdiyev from full membership of the Academy. A

ccording to Azeri-Press news agency, ANAS has made clear that Ramiz Mehdiyev, who has been accused by the State Security Service of treason and attempting to seize power by force, cannot remain a member of the Academy.

The Academy has announced plans to consider Mehdiyev's status and proceed with his expulsion. The public will be informed of the developments in this matter. ANAS has publicly condemned the criminal acts attributed to Mehdiyev, labeling them unforgivable.

The Sabail District Court of Baku has recently issued a decision in the criminal case against Ramiz Mehdiyev. The court granted a motion to place him under house arrest for four months. Mehdiyev is facing charges under several articles of the Criminal Code, including acts aimed at the violent seizure of state power, treason, and the legalization of property obtained by criminal means.

Ramiz Mehdiyev's career includes his tenure as Head of the Presidential Administration from 1995 to 2019, and as President of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences from 2019 to 2022.
