Baku: Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has outlined the country's short-term energy strategy, aiming to secure 8 gigawatts of energy, with a focus on solar and wind power. "The map of solar and wind power plants has been approved, both on land and at sea, including on the liberated lands," President Aliyev stated during an interview with local television channels, as reported by APA.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the President emphasized the nation's goal to expand its energy capacity. By 2030, plans are in place to integrate 6,000 megawatts of solar, wind, and hydropower into Azerbaijan's energy system, with this figure rising to 8,000 megawatts by 2032. To achieve this, the country must enhance its energy grid to accommodate the increased capacity.

President Aliyev also mentioned the necessity of developing battery storage systems alongside these efforts. Initially, Azerbaijan sought foreign investment for this project, but due to a lack of interest, the state is proceeding with the installation of the first batteries, which will have a capacity of approximately 250 megawatts. The President reiterated the commitment to achieving the 8-gigawatt energy target in the short term.
