Baku: Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has outlined the nation's strategy to enhance its energy capacity, targeting the acquisition of 8 gigawatts of energy in the short term. As part of this initiative, a comprehensive map for solar and wind power facilities has been approved, encompassing both terrestrial and marine locations, including areas recently liberated.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, President Aliyev emphasized the importance of expanding the country's energy infrastructure to accommodate 6,000 megawatts of solar, wind, and hydropower by 2030, with an increase to 8,000 megawatts by 2032. He stressed the necessity of fortifying the energy grid to manage and utilize this incoming energy effectively.

In tandem with grid expansion, President Aliyev highlighted the need for battery storage systems to support energy capacity. Initially, Azerbaijan sought foreign investment for this purpose, but limited interest led to state-led installation of the first 250-megawatt capacity batteries. These efforts are part of the broader goal to achieve the 8-gigawatt energy target, underscoring Azerbaijan's commitment to advancing its energy sector.
