Azerbaijan’s Aquaculture Experience Presented at FAO

Rome: The Expert Workshop 'Turning Guidance into Action: Regional Insights for Implementing the Guidelines for Sustainable Aquaculture' convened at the headquarters of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). The workshop focused on developing practical implementation mechanisms at the national level for the "Guidelines for Sustainable Aquaculture" (GSA), which were adopted by the FAO in 2024.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the workshop included discussions on the implementation of the GSA across governance and planning, sustainable resource use, social responsibility, and value chains. Participants also focused on the development of tools to support decision-making.

Jeyhun Aliyev, Director of the Fisheries and Aquaculture Center under the Ministry of Agriculture, shared insights into the institutional reforms undertaken in Azerbaijan's fisheries and aquaculture sector. He emphasized the application of science-based management and monitoring mechanisms, alongside efforts to protect and increase aquatic bioresources. Aliyev noted that the development of the sector in Azerbaijan is rooted in an ecosystem-based approach, prioritizing the application of modern technologies.
