BAKU: New tourist information centers are set to be launched in Baku in anticipation of COP29, aimed at enhancing visitor services and ensuring comfort during the event, as announced by Ilkin Javadov, head of visitor services at the COP29 Azerbaijan Operational Company.

According to Trend News Agency, Javadov revealed that the initiative is a collaborative effort with the State Tourism Agency and the Azerbaijan Tourism Bureau. The plan includes the establishment of nine new information centers. Seven of these centers will be located within the city, while two will be situated at the airport, specifically in Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. The centers are expected to commence operations in November.

This development comes as Azerbaijan prepares to host COP29, following the decision made at the COP28 plenary meeting in Dubai on December 11 of the previous year. The Conference of the Parties (COP) is the decision-making body responsible for overseeing the implementation of the United Nations Framework Convention on
Climate Change, an agreement established during the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in 1992. The convention has 198 signatory countries and holds annual sessions unless decided otherwise by the parties. The inaugural COP event was held in Berlin, Germany, in March 1995, with its secretariat based in Bonn.
