Riyadh: The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, participated in the Consultative Ministerial Meeting in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, to deliberate on methods to bolster the security and stability of the Middle East region, as reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to APA.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, during the meeting, Minister Bayramov emphasized the need to address the ongoing crisis in the region since February 28. He highlighted that the ramifications of the escalation affect not only individual countries but also pose significant regional and global threats, jeopardizing civilian lives and key infrastructure.

Minister Bayramov informed the attendees about the drone attacks originating from Iran on March 5, which targeted the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan, injuring four civilians and damaging critical infrastructure, including the Nakhchivan International Airport. He stressed that Azerbaijan responded promptly and firmly, underscoring its commitment to protecting its sovereignty, territorial integrity, and citizen safety through all legitimate means.

The Minister reiterated the expectation that Iran will fulfill its assurances of conducting a thorough investigation into the incident and implementing measures to prevent future occurrences.

Additionally, Minister Bayramov discussed Azerbaijan's response to the conflict, including humanitarian aid to Iran, with the latest dispatched on March 18 ahead of Novruz and Eid al-Fitr. Azerbaijan also facilitated the use of its territory for third-country aid delivery and civilian evacuation. He reiterated the dangers of expanding the conflict's scope and called for its immediate cessation.

The discussions underscored that targeting regional states could deepen divisions and undermine long-term stability. The importance of regional ownership and responsibility in maintaining peace and security was stressed. The Minister reaffirmed that adherence to international law principles, such as sovereignty and territorial integrity, non-use of force, and non-interference in internal affairs, is essential for achieving sustainable peace and stability in the region.
