New york: Azerbaijan's candidate was elected to the UN Human Rights Committee for the term 2027-2030 during the 42nd meeting of the States Parties to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, held on June 15. The Press Service of Azerbaijan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the election results, highlighting the country's success on the international stage.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, candidates from 16 countries, including Azerbaijan, vied for 9 available positions on the Committee. Fuad Zarbiyev, a professor of international law at the Geneva Institute of International Relations and Azerbaijan's nominee, received a majority of votes in the first round. He secured the support of 131 participating states, thus earning a seat on the Committee.

The UN Human Rights Committee consists of independent experts who monitor the implementation of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights by States parties. Zarbiyev's election signifies Azerbaijan's active involvement in promoting and upholding human rights standards globally.
