Baku: An online meeting of country representatives of the Platform of NGOs of the Member States of the Organization of Turkic States was held on August 28, 2026, APA reports. The meeting focused on the extension of Azerbaijan's chairmanship of the OTS Member States' NGO Platform. The Platform's Secretary General, member of the Board of the Azerbaijan National NGO Forum and MP Azer Allahveranov presented a report on the past period, and consultations were held on upcoming tasks.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the Platform of NGOs of the Member States of the Organization of Turkic States, which was symbolically established by eight countries in Nakhchivan in November 2025 and permanently headquartered in Baku, has achieved significant success in a short period. The 2nd Solidarity Forum of NGOs of the OTS Member States, held in Baku in May 2026, was highlighted as a key event. Within this regional event, cooperation forums of Azerbaijan-Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan-Turkmenistan, and Azerbaijan-Northern Cyprus NGOs were held for the first time.
The Secretariat's work was highly appreciated, with representatives including Ersin Gzel from Trkiye, Yusuf Tekin from the TRNC, Kairjan Abdykhalykov from Kazakhstan, Ramil Iskandarli from Azerbaijan, Nazgul Joldosheva from Kyrgyzstan, and David Biro from Hungary proposing to extend the term of office of the Platform's Secretary General from one year to five years. During discussions, it was noted that according to the TURKPA practice, while the rotating chairmanship changes annually among member countries, the Secretary General is elected for a longer term. The initiative was adopted, and Secretary General Azer Allahveranov expressed gratitude for the confidence placed in him and mentioned plans to intensify the Platform's activities and launch new projects in the future.
