Baku: Azerbaijan's men's and women's national teams got off to a winning start at the 46th Chess Olympiad in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. The women's national team beat Guatemala in the opening round, with Govhar Beydullayeva, Khanim Balajayeva, and Gulnar Mammadova winning their matches. The men's team defeated Morocco 4-0, with Aydin Suleymanli, Mahammad Muradli, Eltaj Safarli, and Rauf Mammadov all securing victories.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the 11-round World Chess Olympiad, held under the Swiss system, will run until September 27. The event features 1,032 chess players representing 208 teams.
