Azerbaijan’s Commissioner for Human Rights Seeks New Legal Powers


Baku: Ombudsperson seeks new legal powers, this was reflected in the 2024 report of the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsperson) of the Republic of Azerbaijan, discussed at today’s meeting of the Human Rights Committee of the Milli Majlis, APA reports.



According to Azeri-Press News Agency, it is proposed to grant the Ombudsman the right to legislative initiative, allow participation in parliamentary discussions on human rights-related draft laws and provide feedback, enshrine the Ombudsman’s right to appeal to the Constitutional Court for the interpretation of the Constitution and laws of Azerbaijan, and consider the Ombudsman’s representation in the Judicial-Legal Council.
