Baku: The Ministry of Emergency Situations supports large-scale early warning system initiatives, Deputy Minister of Emergency Situations Jabrayil Khanlarov said during the event titled 'Early Warnings and Sustainable Cities' held within the framework of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, APA reports.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Khanlarov emphasized the significance of public awareness, local-level disaster risk planning and implementation, and the organization of communication systems. He stated that developing climate-resilient cities and adapting infrastructure to climate change are among the main priorities. The preparation of territorial planning documents, optimization in design, and the construction of climate-resilient urban infrastructure are crucial factors.

He further explained that the impact of environmental factors on urban infrastructure is considered at every stage of construction and urban planning activities. Several important measures must be implemented to reduce the impact of natural disasters and increase the resilience of cities to environmental factors.

The Ministry of Emergency Situations is actively working on using energy-efficient lighting and heating systems, developing water supply infrastructure, raising awareness among construction specialists about climate change, using renewable energy sources, and increasing the climate resilience of buildings and structures based on the smart city concept. Khanlarov concluded that joint cooperation in organizing early warning systems and strengthening the climate resilience of cities is imperative.
