Moscow:Azerbaijan's Minister of Energy, Parviz Shahbazov, attended the 28th Ministerial Meeting of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) held in the Russian Federation. In his address, Shahbazov discussed the challenges facing the global gas market and the increasing significance of natural gas in energy security.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the minister pointed out the uncertainties caused by geopolitical tensions, security risks along supply routes, and shifting energy policy priorities. He emphasized the strategic importance of natural gas amid the electrification of economies and the development of artificial intelligence and data centers.
Shahbazov warned that limiting investment in the gas sector amid rising demand could jeopardize future supply security. He called for immediate investment decisions to ensure reliable gas supplies. He also detailed Azerbaijan's gas strategy, focusing on energy security and long-term partnerships, with the Southern Gas Corridor cited as a successful cooperation model.
He further noted the expansion of Azerbaijan's natural gas production and export capabilities, along with its increased involvement in international gas projects. Shahbazov highlighted the country's renewable energy and energy efficiency policies as integral to its gas export strategy.
The minister also underscored the significance of cooperation within the GECF to maintain global gas market stability, promote investment, and enhance producer-consumer dialogue. Azerbaijan has participated in the Forum as an observer member since 2015.
