Baku:President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan welcomed Miguel Ángel Moratinos, the United Nations Under-Secretary-General and High Representative for the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC), during a recent meeting. Moratinos, who also serves as the UN Special Envoy to Combat Islamophobia, visited to discuss ongoing initiatives and collaboration between Azerbaijan and the UN.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Moratinos congratulated Azerbaijan on its upcoming World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue, highlighting its significance as a global platform for fostering intercultural and interreligious dialogue. He praised Azerbaijan for its pivotal role in supporting the UN Alliance of Civilizations and promoting dialogue at the international level.

Moratinos also commended Azerbaijan's active efforts in combating Islamophobia and its commitment to hosting international conferences on the topic. He expressed appreciation for Azerbaijan's voluntary financial contributions to the UN Alliance of Civilizations, noting the importance of these efforts.

President Aliyev reaffirmed the strong and fruitful partnership between Azerbaijan and the UN Alliance of Civilizations. He stressed the value of the World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue as a venue for addressing key global challenges and enhancing mutual understanding.

Both parties discussed the potential for further cooperation between Azerbaijan and the UN Alliance of Civilizations, underscoring the mutual commitment to advancing intercultural dialogue.
