Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry Calls for EU to Cease Provocations

BAKU — Aykhan Hajizada, Spokesman for Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has called on several European Union institutions to halt provocations against Azerbaijan, citing biased allegations and double standards, Trend reports.

According to Trend News Agency, the statement was a response to provocative remarks by Peter Stano, Spokesperson for the European Commission on Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, particularly concerning human rights in Azerbaijan. Hajizada emphasized that accusations of political persecution in Azerbaijan were unfounded and that legal proceedings in the country were transparent and adhered to international standards. He criticized the EU for premature calls for the release of suspects, which he described as an interference in judicial processes and contrary to EU values.

The spokesman also highlighted what he perceived as inconsistencies in the EU’s stance on human rights, pointing to issues within the bloc such as the treatment of ‘yellow vests’ protesters in France and the situation in New Caledonia. He urged the EU to address these double standards and stop targeting Azerbaijan unfairly.
