Baku: In the first half of this year, Azerbaijan generated 260,804.5 thousand manats from freight transportation by rail and sea within its corridors, marking a 5.6% decrease compared to the same period last year.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the State Statistical Committee reported a decline in rail transportation revenue, which totaled 163,922.9 thousand manats, decreasing by 9.1% compared to the previous year.

During January to June, sea transportation revenues increased slightly by 1.1% to 96,881.6 thousand manats. This contrasts with the first half of the previous year when freight transportation within Azerbaijan’s corridors generated 276,189.4 thousand manats, with 180,319.8 thousand manats from rail and 95,869.6 thousand manats from sea transportation.

In the first half of 2025, freight transportation volumes included 7,120.1 thousand tons by rail, 3,752.2 thousand tons by sea, and 5,307.7 thousand tons by road. The East-West transport corridor saw the highest volume, handling 8,300.8 thousand tons, followed by the Europe-Caucasus-Asia corridor at 4,088.9 thousand tons, the North-South corridor at 4,690.5 thousand tons, the North-West corridor at 2,930.4 thousand tons, and the South-West corridor at 258.2 thousand tons.

Transit cargo made up significant portions of the transport, with 45.8% via rail, 42.3% via road, and 95.1% via sea, highlighting the strategic importance of Azerbaijan’s location for regional and international freight movement.
