Baku: Azerbaijan’s gas production from the Umid field has exceeded 12.3 billion cubic meters as of September 1, 2025. Alongside this, 1.8 million tons of condensate have been produced during the first phase of the field’s development.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the drilling of an underwater appraisal well on the southern flank of the Umid field is scheduled for October this year. This operation, utilizing the “Neptun” rig, marks a significant milestone as it will be the first underwater appraisal well drilled in the history of SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic). The well is projected to reach a depth of 7,067 meters, making it the deepest well drilled in the Umid field to date. The entire drilling operation and subsequent formation testing are expected to span approximately 10 months.

A ceremony was held to mark the completion of the modification works on the ‘Neptun’ self-elevating drilling rig, which is designated for drilling the first appraisal well on the southern flank of the Umid field. The event also celebrated the rig’s launch into the sea. Key attendees included heads of SOCAR, ‘Nobel Upstream,’ the Azerbaijan branch of the ‘Umid Babek Operating Company’ (UBOC), officials from ‘Caspian Oilfield Services’ (COS), and representatives from other partner service companies.
