Baku: Posts claiming that mumps (epidemic parotitis) is spreading widely in Baku have recently been circulating on social media. The Ministry of Health of the Republic of Azerbaijan states that these reports do not reflect the current epidemiological situation, APA reports.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the Ministry of Health has issued a statement clarifying the situation. It was noted that the current epidemiological situation regarding mumps in the country is stable. "The registered cases consist of isolated sporadic infections, and no epidemic or mass outbreak has been recorded," the statement said.

The Ministry emphasized that the situation is under constant epidemiological surveillance by the relevant medical institutions, and necessary preventive and anti-epidemic measures are being implemented consistently. It highlighted that epidemic parotitis is mostly observed among unvaccinated or incompletely vaccinated individuals. The disease is mainly transmitted through airborne droplets by coughing, sneezing, and close contact, with an incubation period usually lasting from 11 to 23 days.

Reaffirming their stance, the Ministry of Health once again stated that the epidemiological situation in the country is fully under control. "Epidemiological monitoring and prompt surveillance measures are being carried out continuously to protect public health," it assured. The public is urged to rely only on official sources, not to believe unverified information circulating on social media, and not to share such information.
