Jakarta:The extensive presence of landmines and explosive remnants of war in conflict-affected areas of Azerbaijan continues to hinder efforts to return internally displaced persons (IDPs), according to Shahriyar Hajiyev, First Secretary of the Permanent Mission of Azerbaijan to the United Nations. Hajiyev addressed this issue during a statement at the Third Committee of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Hajiyev emphasized Azerbaijan's significant experience with forcible displacement, being one of the countries with the highest per capita populations of refugees and IDPs due to past conflicts.
He noted that post-conflict recovery efforts have allowed 96,000 individuals to return and settle in territories previously under occupation. Azerbaijan is committed to the Global Compact on Refugees and other relevant international frameworks, and it pledges to enhance conditions for human rights within its borders.
Hajiyev also reiterated Azerbaijan's readiness to contribute to international cooperation and fulfill its obligations to improve conditions for all residents.
