Azerbaijan’s TRIPP Initiative Aims to Boost Regional Trade

New York:The 'Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity' (TRIPP) is anticipated to enhance connectivity between Azerbaijan's main territory and its Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, opening new avenues for regional trade and economic integration as part of the Zangazur corridor. This was stated by Elvin Ashrafzade, Azerbaijan's Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, during a joint general discussion on macroeconomic policy and financing for development.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Azerbaijan's strategic location at the crossroads of Europe and Asia has led the country to invest significantly in modern transport infrastructure. This investment, coupled with strengthened regional cooperation, has positioned Azerbaijan as a key transport and logistics hub.

The Trans-Caspian International Transport Corridor, or Middle Corridor, plays a crucial role in these developments. Since 2022, cargo volumes along this corridor have surged by nearly 90 percent. Key infrastructures like the Baku International Sea Trade Port and the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway are enhancing trade connections between Asia and Europe, contributing to more robust and diversified supply chains. This growth highlights the Middle Corridor's potential to facilitate trade, cut transit costs, and support sustainable economic development.

To fully realize this potential, ongoing regional cooperation, streamlined procedures, and increased digitalization of transit are essential. Azerbaijan, in collaboration with international partners, is leading the Digital Silk Way project, which involves laying an advanced fiber-optic cable network under the Caspian Sea to connect Asia and Europe, ensuring a secure and resilient digital network.
