Zangilan: President Ilham Aliyev officially inaugurated the ‘Sarigishlag’ Hydroelectric Power Station (HEPS) in the Zangilan district, marking another milestone in the region’s renewable energy development.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Baba Rzayev, President of Azerenerji OJSC, briefed the President on the facility, which is part of a cascade of four hydroelectric stations on the Okhchu River. The ‘Sarigishlag’ HEPS, designed to prioritize environmental sustainability, includes special structures to retain water in the riverbed and eco-turbines that can automatically shut down when water levels drop. The station is expected to produce 33 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, saving 7.4 million cubic meters of gas and preventing the release of 13,000 tons of carbon dioxide.
The facility is part of Azerbaijan’s larger green energy initiative and will contribute to the country’s renewable energy goals.
