Baku:Azerbaijan is making a notable impact on strengthening Islamic solidarity, as stated by Elnara Akimova, a member of the Culture Committee of the Milli Majlis.
According to Azeri-Press news agency, Akimova emphasized the significance of Azerbaijan's commitment to protecting Islamic heritage, considering it a moral responsibility. She highlighted President Ilham Aliyev's recent meeting with Salim bin Mohammed AlMalik, Director-General of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), as pivotal for enhancing Azerbaijan's relations with the Islamic world and promoting humanitarian cooperation. Azerbaijan's historic ties to Islamic civilization and its initiatives in international cooperation, cultural heritage protection, and interreligious dialogue were underscored as part of its policy to strengthen Islamic solidarity.
Akimova further noted Azerbaijan's strategic importance in developing relations with Muslim countries and expanding cooperation within Islamic organizations. The World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue, initiated by President Aliyev, was mentioned as a key example of Azerbaijan's efforts to foster dialogue and mutual understanding. The ICESCO Director-General's recognition of Azerbaijan's successful organization of the forum and his support for President Aliyev's views on conflict cessation and non-interference highlight the international community's interest in Azerbaijan's initiatives. Upcoming events, such as hosting the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Summit and assuming its chairmanship, are expected to enhance cooperation among Muslim states.
The Heydar Aliyev Foundation's humanitarian mission, led by Azerbaijan's First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva and Vice-President Leyla Aliyeva, plays a crucial role in expanding educational opportunities, aiding those in need, and protecting cultural heritage. The foundation's projects in Muslim countries, in collaboration with ICESCO, demonstrate their international reach and contribution to addressing common challenges.
Akimova also stressed the importance Azerbaijan places on protecting Islamic cultural heritage. Restoration efforts in liberated territories and abroad reflect Azerbaijan's commitment to preserving religious and cultural heritage. The activities of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation in this domain are seen as a way to pass these values to future generations and foster mutual respect among different peoples. Azerbaijan's secular statehood and preservation of Islamic moral values are viewed as complementary, with further cooperation with ICESCO seen as vital for continuing its contributions to Islamic solidarity and intercultural dialogue.
