Baku: Azerbaijan's participation in UN peacekeeping missions underscores the nation's commitment to fostering international security, as highlighted by Gulshan Pashayeva, a Member of Parliament and Board Member of the Center of Analysis of International Relations.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Pashayeva articulated that UN peacekeeping operations have become pivotal in conflict management, post-conflict stability, and humanitarian support. The UN's institutional mechanisms, such as the Security Council and the Secretary-General, are crucial in executing these missions, which are supported by member states through personnel, financial, and technical resources.

Pashayeva further explained the diverse forms of modern peacekeeping operations, noting the differences between observation missions, multidimensional peacekeeping missions, and peace enforcement operations in terms of goals and methods. She also highlighted the challenges faced by peacekeeping activities, including the complexity of conflicts, terrorism threats, and resource shortages.

The MP emphasized that peacekeeping is not solely a military endeavor but a complex mechanism involving international law, diplomacy, and security policy. This framework is essential for understanding Azerbaijan's significant role in these missions and the practical contributions of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces.

Currently, there are over 65,000 UN peacekeepers from 121 countries involved in 11 operations across Africa, Asia, and Europe, including two service members from Azerbaijan, reinforcing the nation's commitment to global peace and security initiatives.
