Baku: Azerbaijan's State Security Service (SSS) Military Medical Department has successfully identified 327 missing persons, as announced by Medical Service Major General Rufat Aliyev during an international conference. The conference, titled "Modern Approaches and Strengthening Cooperation in Resolving the Issue of Missing Persons," was organized in collaboration with the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP).
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Major General Aliyev highlighted the challenges faced due to the degradation of bone samples collected from burial sites. Environmental factors have significantly contributed to the degradation, making DNA fragmentation and chemical damage major obstacles in obtaining genetic profiles. Despite these challenges, Aliyev noted that the application of enhanced protocols and specialized methods has enabled specialists to conduct complex genetic tasks during forensic medical examinations.
The efforts of the Military Medical Department have been instrumental in addressing the issue of missing persons, utilizing advanced forensic techniques to achieve genetic identification. The successful identification of 327 individuals marks a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to resolve the cases of those missing, offering closure to families affected by the conflict.
