Azerbaijan’s Tomato Exports to Russia Drastically Decline

Baku: Azerbaijan’s tomato exports to Russia have experienced a significant drop, with a near cessation observed in August and September.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, this decline is highlighted by the latest calculations based on the report from the State Statistical Committee.

In the initial seven months of the current year, Azerbaijan exported 138,816 tons of tomatoes to Russia, generating revenue of approximately 149.5 million US dollars. This translates to an average monthly export volume of around 19,800 tons. However, there was a stark reduction in August, with exports plummeting to merely 400 tons, followed by a further decline to 35 tons in September. This sharp decrease suggests that tomato supplies from Azerbaijan to Russia have almost entirely halted over the past couple of months.

It is important to note that the Russian market constitutes about 97 percent of Azerbaijan’s total tomato exports, making this downturn particularly impactful for the country’s agricultural export sector.
