Baku: In the ongoing trial at the Baku Military Court concerning citizens of the Republic of Armenia, the verdict has been pronounced against the accused, Bako Sahakyan. It was stated that although Sahakyan was charged with crimes punishable by life imprisonment and these charges were proven during the court investigation, life imprisonment could not be imposed due to his age. Sahakyan had reached the age of 65 by the time the final court decision was issued, which, according to the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan, prohibits life imprisonment for individuals of this age.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the accused Bako Sahakyan was definitively sentenced to 20 years of imprisonment. The prosecutors representing the state had also proposed this sentence, aligning with the final verdict.
The trial of citizens of the Republic of Armenia accused of various serious crimes continues.
