Baku:The World Bank has identified the modernization of the Baku-Alat-Boyuk Kesik railway, a crucial transport line in Azerbaijan along the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor, as a priority investment project.
According to Azeri-Press news agency, the World Bank's report, titled 'Integration World-Class Trade Logistics Along the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor,' highlights this railway line's modernization as a key investment area for Azerbaijan. The project is expected to require a total investment of $260 million.
The project aims to upgrade the railway line's electrification system and signaling infrastructure, thereby adapting Azerbaijan's main railway line to the increasing freight flows along the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor. This modernization will also help expand the corridor's operational capacity.
Identified as a short-term priority, the project is planned for implementation by 2030. The report underscores that the development of the Trans-Caspian Corridor necessitates investments not only in railways but also in roads, seaports, border crossing points, and logistics infrastructure.
Furthermore, the World Bank emphasizes that enhancing physical infrastructure alone is insufficient to boost the corridor's competitiveness. It also calls for improvements in cross-border cooperation, trade facilitation mechanisms, and services to achieve this goal.
