Baku: The trial of Arastun Orujlu, who faces charges of making calls against the Azerbaijani state, is set to commence, as reported by APA. The criminal case has been assigned to Judge Babek Panahov at the Baku Court on Grave Crimes, with a preparatory session scheduled for January 5.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Arastun Orujlu is accused under Article 281.2 of the Criminal Code for public calls directed against the state, allegedly committed repeatedly or by a group of persons. Orujlu reportedly evaded the investigation and fled Azerbaijan, resulting in his placement on a wanted list. The Binagadi District Court imposed a preventive arrest measure in absentia on February 23.

Further developments occurred on September 18, when additional charges under Articles 220.2 and 281.2 of the Criminal Code were filed against Orujlu. The charges stem from alleged activities on January 4, 2023, and October 24, 2024, on the 'YouTube' channel 'Arastun Orujlu's Channel' and 'Azerfreedom TV,' respectively. He, along with others, is accused of making open calls encouraging the use of force against the legally-constituted government of Azerbaijan.
