Baku Engineering University Hosts Session on ‘4IR Academy – National Program’

Baku:An information session dedicated to the '4IR Academy - National Program' project was held at Baku Engineering University (BEU). The program, jointly implemented by the Fourth Industrial Revolution Analysis and Coordination Center (4IRC) under the Ministry of Economy, the State Agency for Science and Higher Education, and 'Coursera,' aims to enhance students' digital knowledge and skills and encourage them to utilize international training opportunities.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, BEU's Vice-Rector for Science and Innovation, Aghasi Malikov, discussed the impact of industrial revolutions on education and life. He emphasized the advantages of the 'National Program,' noting that it provides students with opportunities to attend lectures by renowned experts from leading technology companies, allowing them to gain modern knowledge and skills.

Aghasi Malikov also highlighted BEU's achievements within the program, stating that the university has shown strong results among the country's universities in terms of participant numbers and completed courses. He described these opportunities as investments in students' futures.

Khayala Fatullayeva, Head of the Digital Economy Department of 4IRC, explained that the program has been running for three years with the main goal of developing human capital. She emphasized the importance of adapting to the demands of the modern world and acquiring digital skills to remain competitive in the labor market.

Fatullayeva noted that technological changes and automation might reduce demand for some professions but also create new specializations and job opportunities. In this context, skills in using artificial intelligence and digital technology tools are crucial for future success in the labor market.

Aytan Aghayeva, a data analyst at 4IRC, and Tural Gurbanli, a specialist at the Digital Economy Department, provided details on the program's goals and opportunities, including the AI-based 'Coursera AI Assistant' function and the 'Digital Badge' system.

The session also highlighted some of BEU's participation metrics. In the 3rd stage (June 22 - September 14), BEU ranked 7th among universities in terms of participants and 8th in completed courses. In the second stage (April 1, 2025 - April 1, 2026), it was 6th in participants and 1st in completed courses.

An interactive survey concluded the event, with prizes awarded to the winners. The session aligned with Sustainable Development Goals 4 (Quality Education) and 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure).
