Baku: Starting from the 2026/2027 academic year, Baku Engineering University (BEU) will introduce a new master's specialization in "Financial Engineering." This initiative aims to equip students with the skills to tackle complex issues in financial markets through modern mathematical models, statistical methods, programming, artificial intelligence, and digital financial technologies.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the program focuses on developing students' abilities in financial market modeling, risk assessment via quantitative methods, investment decision optimization, and data-driven decision-making. The specialization seeks to cultivate professional financial engineers who can drive digital transformation, manage financial risks, and innovate financial products for various financial institutions including banks, investment and insurance companies, and FinTech companies.

The curriculum is divided into two stages. Initially, students will learn the fundamentals of financial engineering, including financial engineering and risk management, digitalization in international finance, advanced econometrics, and more. They can also select courses in macroeconomic modeling, capital markets engineering, and data analytics in finance, among others, to enhance their analytical and mathematical modeling skills.

The second stage provides a more applied focus, with courses in research analytics, financial technologies, derivative financial instruments valuation, risk engineering, and blockchain technologies. This phase aims to bolster students' competencies in decision-making and financial innovation application.

The educational process incorporates modern approaches such as project-based and problem-based learning, financial model building using computer programs, data analytics, economic and statistical analysis, and practical problem-solving based on real financial markets. The program also includes a blend of mandatory and elective courses.

In their final semester, students will participate in an academic-pedagogical internship and a research internship, both of which carry the same credit weight. They will conclude their studies by preparing and defending a master's dissertation.
