Baku: The Azerbaijan Junior Open 2026 international badminton tournament is set to take place in Baku from August 14 to 16.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the event will feature athletes from countries including Trkiye, the United States, Iran, India, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, the United Arab Emirates, and Georgia, alongside Azerbaijani participants. Matches will be held at the Badminton Hall in Baku.

The tournament boasts a prize fund totaling US$5,000, which is approximately AZN 8,500. Azerbaijan will be represented by a team of 22 junior players, consisting of 13 girls and 9 boys, under the guidance of head coach Morteza Validarvi.

Competitions across five categories will kick off at 09:00 on August 14, with the final matches scheduled for August 16. The tournament's chief referee is Greek official Christos Evangelidis.

This event marks the first international badminton tournament in Azerbaijan under the Junior International Series category and is designed to give young athletes international competitive experience, enhance their professional growth, and foster a competitive atmosphere among junior players.
