Baku: The 8th Congress of the Azerbaijan Trade Unions Confederation was held in Baku on December 16. The event gathered Congress delegates, representatives of state and non-governmental organizations, and heads of trade unions from international organizations, alongside representatives from several countries.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Shahmar Movsumov, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan and Head of the Department of Economic Issues and Innovative Development Policy of the Presidential Administration, presented President Ilham Aliyev’s address to the participants. The Congress agenda featured reports on the Confederation’s activities from 2018 to 2025, along with insights from the Inspection Commission. Discussions also took place regarding the new draft Charter and the primary directions for future activities.

During the Congress, Sahib Mammadov, Chairman of the Azerbaijan Trade Unions Confederation, emphasized President Ilham Aliyev’s focus on trade unions and highlighted the humanitarian and social projects initiated by First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva. These projects have been instrumental in advancing the country’s socio-economic development.

Azerbaijan’s Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev acknowledged the achievements stemming from the development of social partnerships based on the General Collective Agreement. He noted that the ongoing socio-economic reforms in the country have fostered favorable conditions for the effective operation of trade unions.

Speakers at the event included Ali Ahmadov, First Deputy Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis; Anar Aliyev, Minister of Labor and Social Protection of the Population; Musa Guliyev, Chairman of the Milli Majlis Labor and Social Policy Committee; Mammad Musayev, President of the National Confederation of Entrepreneurs (Employers) Organizations of Azerbaijan; Luc Triangle, General Secretary of the International Trade Union Confederation; Oliver R¶pke, Director of the Bureau for Workers’ Activities at the International Labour Organization (ILO); Igor Zubku, Chairman of the Pan-European Regional Council (PERC); Ergn Atalay, Chairman of the Confederation of Trade Unions of Trkiye; among other officials.

The Congress concluded with the approval of the new draft Charter, setting the main directions for the Confederation’s activities in the coming period.
