Geneva: The Baku Initiative Group (BIG) will organize an international conference focusing on "Combating Transnational Repression by the Government of India: Sikh Resistance and the UN" in Geneva, Switzerland. This event will take place alongside the 61st session of the United Nations Human Rights Council.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the conference will gather influential members of the Sikh diaspora from countries such as Canada, the UK, Australia, and the U.S. It will also include individuals who have directly experienced India's repressive policies. The discussions will revolve around the Indian government's actions, which have caused ethnic communities to leave the country. Sikh activists, diaspora leaders, and their families abroad have increasingly faced attacks and threats from Indian authorities, raising concerns about cross-border repression and human rights violations.

The event will address critical issues, including the need to attract international attention to these concerns. It aims to explore ways to bring the Indian government's policies against ethnic minorities to the agenda of the UN and its bodies. Key topics will include the effective use of existing procedures within the Human Rights Council and the documentation by UN rapporteurs of the persecution faced by the Sikh community. The conference will also emphasize strengthening global accountability and monitoring mechanisms to prevent such cases and hold the Indian government accountable internationally.

Following the conference, there will be a presentation of a joint report by the Baku Initiative Group and the Sikh Federation. Media representatives will have the opportunity to ask questions during the event.
