Baku-Islamabad cooperation expanding (Pakistan Observer)

Ambassador Dashgin Shilearov of Azerbaijan hosted a reception to mark 97th Republic Day of Azerbaijan.

A large number of guests graced the function. They included ambassadors of various countries stationed in Islamabad, former diplomats, senior civil and military officers as well as other prominent people Federal minister, Lt. Gen (Rtd) Abdul Qadir Baloch was the chief guest. Among the prominent guests were Mr. Zahid Malik, Editor inchief, Pakistan Observer, former foreign minister Gohar Ayub Khan and Marvi Memon MNA. Huge number of guests clearly reflected goodwill Azerbaijan enjoys in the comity of nations.

This countrys progress in the socio-economic fields at home and its policy of peace and cooperation in the realm of international relations are quite impressive.

Azerbaijan carries on a balanced foreign policy, based on the interests of the country. Situated on the geographical border of Europe and Asia, Azerbaijan is integrated in the political structures of both continents. Being a member of the Council of Europe and the OSCE. Azerbaijan plays an active role in the OIC, ECO. It is also a member of non-Aligned Movement, and recently it completed its tenure as a non-permanent member of UN Security Council.

Pakistan and Azerbaijan enjoy close and cordial relations characterized by shared perception on major global and regional issues.

The two countries signed a number of agreements to provide a framework for bilateral cooperation in all spheres including economy, trade and military fields.

Both countries closely cooperate in international forums and support each other on their core issues. The visit of President of Pakistan Mr. Mamnoon Hussain to Azerbaijan was another important milestone in our bilateral relations. The meeting of Pakistani President with the President of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev and agreements signed during the visit will obviously serve to further strengthening and deepening of bilateral ties.

The conferment on First Lady of Azerbaijan Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva with Hilal-e-Pakistan order in recognition of her services to Pakistan by President Mamnoon Hussain was highly appreciated by people and Government of Azerbaijan.
