Baku: Several flights between Baku and Nakhchivan have experienced delays as a result of thunderstorm activity, Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) reported to APA-Economics.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the airline stated that flights will resume once weather conditions stabilize. Passengers will be kept informed about any potential changes to their travel plans.

The airline highlighted that the unique geographical location and mountainous terrain of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic could directly impact flight operations. The presence of strong winds, sudden shifts in wind direction, and lightning poses additional risks during takeoff and landing.

It is critical to understand that the decision to delay or cancel flights due to weather is not based solely on what passengers observe at the airport. In aviation, decisions are made based on current and forecasted weather conditions along the flight route and at both the departure and arrival airports. Conditions such as lightning, strong winds, vertical air currents, heavy precipitation, low visibility, or storm clouds may not be noticeable from the ground.
