Baku: Seabed dredging in the Caspian Sea is set to commence by the end of the year, according to Baku Port Director General Eldar Salahov. He informed journalists that the fluctuating level of the Caspian Sea presents a significant environmental challenge for all countries bordering the sea.

According to Azeri-Press news agency, Salahov revealed that an international tender for the project was announced earlier in the summer, and the results are currently being evaluated. The terms of the final contract are expected to be finalized shortly, with dredging activities anticipated to begin by the end of 2026.

Salahov noted that the dredging process is expected to take approximately one and a half years. Preliminary technical work, including seabed studies and bathymetric surveys, has already been completed by the port. He reassured that no current technical issues or vessel reception limitations are affecting the port due to the changes in sea level, emphasizing the preventive nature of the dredging plan.
